Congratulations to Tom Twomey, chairman of the library’s board of managers for re-opening the children’s section of the East Hampton Library on June 21, 2014. The 6,800 square foot expansion creates a wonderful place for children to go to for a variety of educational experiences. The library has 6 IPads with educational programs, thousands of new books to read, workshops and entertainment for children. Due to its location in Eastern Long Island the library was designed with a nautical theme to pay tribute to the area’s history and surroundings. The librarians sit inside a boat shaped desk, the floor is a map of the East End, and light fixtures hanging from the ceiling are shaped as seagulls. There is also a 16 foot-tall windmill and a lighthouse with blinking lights in the toddlers section. This unique nautical theme differentiates East Hampton Library from all others and further portrays the lifestyle of Hamptons.

Thanks to state funding and countless donors this addition was made possible. For more information on The East Hampton Library you can visit their website www.easthamptonlibrary.org/ or contact them at 631.324.0222
