Suffolk lawmakers just approved a 40-year lease of 58.6 acres, including a 40-year option to renew, to Rechler Equity Partners to develop a $90-million high-tech hub at Gabreski Airport in West Hampton. The airport will become a complex for alternative energy, homeland security and wireless communication. In addition, on the western side of the airport, off County Road 31, 520,000 square feet of the 58.6 acres will feature a movie theatre and a 165-room hotel and conference center. All told, the complex will yield the county $38 million in rents and generate up to 1,200 jobs! This is good news for the economy of Westhampton and the surrounding area.
